FAQ

What is microblading?

A new technique, Microblading uses a special pen to create delicate hair-like strokes to fill out or reshape brows. The semi-permanent tattoo requires minimal healing time and even less effort to maintain.

Am I a good candidate for Microblading?

Microblading is for anyone who wants to have effortlessly full and beautiful eyebrows every day. Permanent Cosmetics by Alyssa Bingham serves a diverse range of clientele from previous over-tweezers and those looking to streamline their daily beauty routines to those who are suffering from Alopecia and cancer.

How long does the procedure take?

The first session takes around 1.5 – 2 hours from the moment you walk in the door to completion of your beautiful new brows. Most of the time is spent drawing your new brows and numbing the area. 6-8 weeks later you will come in for your touch up appointment. This second appointment is crucial for the best results as everyone heals differently. Pigment color may need to be adjusted; brow thickness and more strokes can be added. Individuals with oily skin often require a deeper shade during the touch up session as the oils tend to lighten the pigment. Most importantly, your touch up session is when we refine your brows to ensure it looks perfect and retains the color. This second appointment MUST be scheduled 5-8 weeks after your initial visit otherwise it will be charged as an annual visit instead of a touch up.

How long does it take to heal?

Some swelling and tenderness after the procedure is normal and may last a day or so. Your new brows will appear DARKER than the way they will heal. This is especially true for days 2-5. This is the hardest part for some clients. Clients who rarely wear makeup may find that they don’t like how their brows look on these days because they are too intense. That’s normal! The pigment is sitting on top of the skin and has not yet settled into your face. As your skin heals over the tattoo, your brows with lighten and soften. This process takes about 10 days or so on average.

PRE CARE:
No working out, alcohol or caffeine 24 hours before the procedure.
Avoid sun tanning one week prior to procedure.
Do not take over the counter medications such as aspirin and ibuprofen or certain vitamins and supplements such as vitamin E, fish oil, biotin and Niacin 24 hours before the procedure.
Discontinue use of any glycolics, Retin-A and chemical peels 4 weeks prior to the procedure, and refrain from using any Alpha Hydroxy Acid (AHA) products close to the eyebrow area 2 weeks prior (and 2 weeks post) procedure.
No brow waxing or tinting 48 hours before.
If you use Botox, it should be performed either 2 weeks prior or 2 weeks post procedure; and, if you use dermal fillers, they should be done 6 weeks prior or 6 weeks post procedure.
Growth serums such as Lattise should not be used on brows 2 weeks prior and 2 weeks post procedure.

POST CARE:
Microblading is a “dry heal” – meaning, it is imperative that they stay dry during the first 10 days following the procedure. This means, DO NOT GET THEM WET AT ALL!
Avoid sweating for a for a full 10 days. Any physical effort, gym, hot weather, any other activity that may cause sweating through or on the brows will cause the “hairstrokes” to blur under the skin, there is no fixing this.
Only touch your eyebrow with clean hands and DO NOT rub, pick or scratch the treated area. Let any scabbing or dry skin naturally exfoliate off. Picking can cause scarring and pigment loss!
Avoid direct sun exposure and tanning beds for a minimum of 4 weeks after your procedure. It can cause the pigment to change color while it is healing and can also cause hyper pigmentation and scarring.
Avoid pool, sauna, steam rooms, hot showers and/or hot baths for 2 weeks.
NO makeup or skincare products can be used on the treated area for 10 days.
Eyebrow tinting or waxing should not be undertaken for 2 weeks after the procedure.
NO facials around the area for 4 weeks.
Avoid Retin-A, Chemical Peels and Microderms around the brow area once healed.
Avoid any skincare that has the words “ACID” “RETIN A” “GLYCOL” on the treated area. Look in your foundations and primers too, as these ingredients can be used in things that say “long lasting” or “Forever.”
